Perfume Guide

Welcome to Cici Parfum& Fragrance Store Perfume Guide

1.  Why do perfumes smell different on different people?

Your own body chemistry affects how different perfume notes react with your skin. Anything that affects the “natural” smell of your skin, such as hormonal changes, stress, medications, or your diet might change how a perfume smells on you.

2. What are Eau De Toilette, Eau De Parfum, etc?

Eau de Cologne (2 – 5% perfume oil)
Eau Fraiche (Usually 3% or less perfume oil)
Eau de Parfum (8 – 15% perfume oil)
Eau de Toilette (4 – 10% perfume oil)
Soie de Parfum (15 – 18% perfume oil)
PARFUM or Perfume (15 – 25% — also sometimes referred to as extract or extrait)
Perfume oil (15-30% perfume oil in an oil rather than alcohol base)

3. How can I make my perfume last longer on my skin?

Perfumes have this tendency to evaporate rapidly from dry skin. So the best way to make it last longer is to use relevant cream or body lotion. Have you seen people buying matching cream with their fragrance? This is the reason behind it. Cetaphil is one unscented cream that people use it with perfumes , of course Petroleum jelly is also ok..

4. What are top, middle, and base notes?

Top notes give the first scent impression of a fragrance once it has been applied to the skin. They are usually lighter and evaporate readily. Their scent usually remains for between 5 and 30 minutes.

Middle notes, are also referred to as “heart notes”, and makes the body of the scent .Middle notes takes around 10-30 min to develop on the skin.

Base Notes are notes with heavy molecular weight. They last long and help slow down the evaporation rate .

5. What are the “fragrance families”?

Fragrances families are aroma grouping of related scents. More than one classification system is used but major 7 of them are: Florals, Chypre, Oriental,Tobacco,Greens,Aldehydics.

6. How long can I keep my perfume before it “turns”?

Properly stored perfumes should last much longer but some perfume industry experts say that perfume should be replaced every year. A perfume should be kept away from heat and light. Covering it with a box is best thing to do. Also, avoid direct exposure to air.
